MUSIC IN LECTURES
At the beginning of each lecture, in the four or five minutes while students are arriving and settling themselves, I have music playing and a Powerpoint slide explaining its relevance to the topic of the week. For example, in an International Political Economy lecture on the development of markets, I play a piece of Sephardic music – medieval Jewish music from the Iberian peninsula while the following slide is showing:
The aim is to show that markets today are ubiquitous; this wasn’t always the case. Markets are a historical creation and are continuing to change today.
