ROLE PLAY IN TUTORIALS

In some tutorials, I devise a role play in which students prepare a case to argue in an adversarial framework. An example is in my Latin American history course. Here, I advertise a debate between the supporters of Fr. Bartolome de Las Casas, Bishop of Chiapas, New Spain and a defender of the indigenous people of the Americas, and Fr. Juan Ginés de Sepúlveda, a supporter of the Spanish conquest and the conquistadores. This debate actually took place in Vallodolid, Spain in 1550. A screen shot of the invitation can be seen here:
